I work permanently in Umbria, with a base in Foligno at Tenuta San Lorenzo Vecchio, a historic estate among the olive trees. I've photographed weddings in Assisi, across the Umbrian valley and at the Springs of Clitunno — for Italian couples and for couples who travelled from abroad to marry here. MY APPROACH
Umbria doesn't need posing: it has medieval villages as natural backdrops, sunsets that turn Assisi's pink stone to gold, morning mists over the valley that look like film sets. My job is not to ruin any of that with artificial setups.
No forced directions, no repeated scenes, no looking at the camera on command. I arrive early, observe, come close at the right moments.
Many of the couples I follow in Umbria come from abroad: for them — and their guests — being free to simply live the day is part of the experience.

THE TERRITORY
A wedding in Umbria can be a thousand things: mystical in Assisi, aristocratic in Perugia, rural in the Umbrian Valley, theatrical in Orvieto. Distances are short: you marry in a village and celebrate at an estate twenty minutes away.
The town of Saint Francis is Umbria's destination wedding capital: ceremonies in medieval churches, receptions in hilltop castles and relais overlooking the valley — like Petrata Castle, where I've photographed couples from all over the world.
The authentic, rural heart of the region: historic estates among olive groves (my own Umbrian base, Tenuta San Lorenzo Vecchio, is here), the flower-filled lanes of Spello, the wine villages of Bevagna and Montefalco, and the emerald Springs of Clitunno.
Perugia's medieval acropolis for elegant city weddings; nearby, Lake Trasimeno offers lakeside receptions and sunsets that feel Tuscan — without the Tuscan crowds.
The cliff-top city of Orvieto, with its golden Duomo, is one of Italy's most theatrical backdrops. The countryside towards Todi hides farmhouses and relais for intimate, refined receptions.

I'm Francesco Febbo, a documentary wedding photographer. My main studio is in Pescara, on the Adriatic coast, but Umbria is my second professional home: my base is in Foligno, at Tenuta San Lorenzo Vecchio.

Photographing a wedding doesn't start on the day itself. It starts much earlier, getting to know you and planning every detail.
We meet in person or on a video call. Tell me how you fell in love, where you're marrying, what you dream your photos will feel like.
Together we plan the day's timeline, the venue visit, the ideal hours for natural light. Nothing is left to chance.
I arrive for the preparations and stay for the agreed coverage. Discreet, constant, never intrusive.
Personal selection and editing of every image. Private online gallery within 60 days, and a handcrafted album if included — shipped worldwide.

Umbria rewards those who know it: the golden valley light lasts minutes, Assisi's lanes empty of visitors at precise hours, and the right viewpoint over Orvieto's cliff isn't on any map. I'm based in Foligno at Tenuta San Lorenzo Vecchio and photograph weddings across the region all year round — that local knowledge is in every frame.
Marrying in Umbria from abroad is easier than it looks: experienced local planners, symbolic ceremonies in castle gardens, venues used to international guests. What you need from your photographer is English, local knowledge and a documentary eye — the three things I bring to every wedding.
The cost depends on hours of coverage, a second photographer, the album and extras like film and engagement sessions. Packages start at around €1,300 for an essential service, with no travel fees in Umbria thanks to my Foligno base, and a tailored quote after a free introductory call.
Umbria sits in the centre of Italy: Rome and Florence airports are both about two hours away, and Assisi and Foligno have direct trains from Rome. Your guests can combine the wedding with Assisi, Orvieto and the hill towns — reason enough to say yes to Umbria.
Traditional wedding photography works in poses: couples are positioned, lit, photographed. The result is aesthetically correct but emotionally empty. Documentary photography works by observation: the photographer follows you, anticipates the moments, stands where something meaningful is about to happen. The resulting images have an energy no pose can fake.
